Albéniz Guitar duo a stroke of luck
One thing for sure: engaging the Albéniz Guitar Duo was a rare stroke of luck for the
society of concerts of Bad Kreuznach. The guitar players Reiner Stutz and Burkhard Wolk
fascinated with a more than respectable program to a full house. At any time the guitars
were of the most desirable conciseness and transparency.

Also the four „Danzas Espagnolas" op. 37 by E. granados were presented extremely sensitivly and they
were most suitable to experience the guitar’s own magic.

Virtuoso performance
|
On Saturday the Albéniz Guitar Duo gave a virtuoso performance in the former gym hall of Herrenberg.
Burkhard Wolk and Reiner Stutz damonstrated the tuneful possibilities of their instruments during one of the
town’s concert evenings. About 280 listeners were enthusiastic about this performance.
The Albéniz Guitar Duo „proved having flying hands" at a composition of the impressionist Mario Gangi whose
compositions were inspired by the fiery folk music of Andalusia.
Finally the AGD presented themselves as homogenous partners with romantic music by E. Granados. In this
varied sequence the guitarists demonstrated meditative melancholy as well as virtuoso skill.

The widely travelled guitarists proved their artistic strong point with compositions of
Romanticism, e.g. the original Grand Duo of the Frenchman Napoléon Coste and the Spaniard Enrique
Granados.
Here the music has great richness of tone, tonal density and substance. Burkhard Wolk and Reiner
Stutz were convincing with the virtuoso parts as well as with the interpretation and the perfect
ensemble playing.

Guitar sounds of unexpected variety
|
As a precaution the guitarists warned of Leo Brouwers composition „Per suonare a due" of
the year 1973: „it has no rhythm, no melody it is just as intelligent as dissonant and chaotic,
you’ll find out....". The eardrum were curling up, the small grey cells didn’t stop being surprised.
It was fantastic. There was clapping and knocking, whispering and shouting - a rare treasure was presented.
The audience was simply thrilled. Enjoying this Duo was a special treat: superior interpreters with
identical conception and thus with identical message, presented guitar sounds of an unexpected variety.
